Fanau Pasifika is the Centre for Pasifika Education within Kia Aroha Campus. Fanau Pasifika opened originally as Clover Park Intermediate School in 1981. Clover Park officially changed its status in 1995 from a two-year Intermediate school to a four-year Middle School, catering for Years 7 to 10. In 2011, Clover Park merged with Te Whānau o Tupuranga to become Kia Aroha College, now Kia Aroha Campus.
Kia Aroha Campus is the only secondary school in the country offering bilingual (dual medium) learning in Pasifika languages right through to Year 13.
Languages and levels in Fanau Pasifika are:
LEA FAKA TONGA
Fatufatu Fala: Years 0 to 6: Total Immersion in Tongan language
Fonuamalu: Years 7-13: Bilingual (dual medium) Tongan and English - including NCEA standards in Tongan.
GAGANA SAMOA
Lumana’i: Years 7-13: Bilingual (dual medium Samoan and English - including NCEA standard in Samoan
Learning bilingually is part of our special character. Students of all ethnicities are very welcome to enrol in any of our bilingual programmes. All students cover the full New Zealand Curriculum and excellence in English is expected.
